The TIC & Santé education center and HPC@LR computation center organized in Montpellier on the 31st of Januray an afternoon around the topic “High Performance Computing and Health”.

During this afternoon Alban SCHMUTZ, Oxalya CEO, had a chance to speak about the different uses and applications of numerical simulation for medecine. HPC and simulation inputs in the health field are numerous: molecules modeling, bioinformatics, medical imaging and concern many jobs and specializations.

Around 80 specialists in this fiels attended the different presentations on the Montpellier 2 University site.

In the occasion of a FNRS project under the lead of the CECI program, the Catholic University of Louvain – Belgium (UCL) just acquired a new supercomputer called Lemaitre2.

Oxalya is just puting together the last cables of this new supercomputer at the moment. The HP infrastructure, with its 1 344 cores Infiniband interconnect for a total power of 13.6 Tflops, will offer UCL significantly better performances from Lemaitre1. The new supercomputer will be part of the CECI network (UCL, ULB, FUNDP, UMons, ULg) which is set to offer between 6 000 and 7 000 cores to 500 researchers by 2013.

Last October, Oxalya was recognized and rewarded ‘Clusters Innovative Business’ by the Systematic Paris Region cluster. This label, initiated by the ‘Worldclass Clusters Club’ in 2009 and launched in 2010, includes around 50 clusters to this day, among which Cap Digital, Mov’eo, ViaMeca to name a few.

This initiative was designed for innovative SMEs greatly involved in the Clusters R&D projects and wishing to grow and expand in the best conditions. The SMEs labeled ‘Clusters Innovative Business’ are prepared and guided through their fund-raising efforts and witness a greater visibility within their ecosystem.

In the first year of the initiative, the 25 SMEs labeled by Systematic have been able to gather a grand total of €15M funding.

ILMAB project kick off took place on November the 9th.

This 30 months “FUI” project aims at offering the first unified simulation chain for building trades.

Indeed, building experts have been using advanced simulation methods and tools for a long time, however no tools integration initiative ever took place to date.

Notably based on the outputs of completed projects such as InPro, EHPOC ou OpenHPC, ILMAB intends to bring out future buildings design and evaluation tools. By offering a unified view of the technical object “building”, ILMAB wishes to facilitate and optimize consulting and design offices work.

ILMAB will produce a prototype of integrated simulation chain for building trades, focused on aging issues. This chain will rest on an Open architecture and will be delivered in the form of a suite of performant multi-tasks tools, aiming at future industrial use.

In the frame of the project, Oxalya will make its VirtualNodes and VisuPortal technologies available to all partners for the prototyping of the ILMAB platform.

A public website for the project should be up by mid 2012.

As previously announced, Oxalya – VisuPortal are present at this year edition of Super Computing and are collaborating with CAPS entreprise and Exxact in this occasion.

The joint booth is the opportunity to launch a consistent offer around a unique topic of interest: The good use of GPU.

Federative event for the French community of Virtual Reality, the ‘AFRV’ days have gathered this year around 160 attendees.

This event represented for Oxalya and Barco France a great opportunity to launch an initiative to bridge the gap between the virtual reality and scientific visualization communities. Indeed, these two communities which share some issues and challenges are still rather isolated.

This bridge, made possible by recent technologies convergence and the resources optimization trend observed within the industry, is not only a wish but also an unprecedented offer from Barco and Oxalya.

Alban Schmutz will participate in the AFRV 2011 edition. This event dedicated to Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and 3D interactions will take place on the 11th-13th of October in Biarritz (France).

Oxalya CEO will be speaking of “Ultra-high-resolution Immersive Space: An overview of the Visualization technologies and Applicative portals it will consist of”. This presentation will be collaboratively addressed with Mr. Eric Braux, CEO of Barco France.

This study shows that the software industry is a key industry in France. The first 297 editors alone are responsible for almost 8€ billion turnover in 2010, with a growth of 10% between 2008 and 2010.
